Devestated by an Earthquake
On January 12th, 2010, an earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti. In a matter of a single event, this country’s infrastructure, economy, and educational system were largely destroyed. The most vulnerable of this population have been the children. Countless children became orphans due to this earthquake and countless more have been abandoned because of harsh socio-economic conditions.
Hikmah Relief strives to change the outlook of these children’s lives by providing assistance in living, education, and overall well-being.
- What We Have Done
Where it all Started
In December of 2015, a group of our founders, then merely college students, were on a relief trip in the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. when they visited an extremely underfunded orphanage called Orphanage Nour. Serving 20+ orphans, this facility had no access to electricity; when the sun went down, the young, lively, and energetic kids had no choice but to go into their crammed, dark, and cold rooms and sleep. At that time, those young founders unanimously made a last minute decision to pool their own money together to provide the orphanage with a battery inverter system to power their facility through the day and night. Realizing this inverter wasn’t enough, this was just the beginning.
Upon returning from Haiti, Hikmah Relief, a now 501(c)3 registered non-profit, was born. Establishing the not-for-profit gave our young founders a base to stand on. On the next next trip in March 2016, Hikmah Relief replaced the orphanage’s old and weak generator with a brand new 3,000 watts generator.

- The Original Madinah Orphanage & Academy
On September 2nd, 2016, Madinah Orphanage opened its doors to serve orphans and provide them with access to safe shelter, food, and most importantly, a future.
After establishing the orphanage, the education of these orphans was the next goal for the team at Hikmah Relief. On November 28, 2016; Madinah Academy opened its doors to provide these orphans with an enriching academic experience. With 7 highly-qualified teachers and administrators, our dream of giving these orphans a real education is finally coming true. Madinah Academy will host an American education curriculum providing education in subjects including: Creole, French, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Physical Education, and Religious Studies.
- The New Madinah Orphanage & Academy
With the help of our generous donors and hard-working volunteers, in April 2020 we opened the doors to our brand new, 15,000 Square Foot Madinah Orphanage & Academy. With the capacity to serve over 100+ orphans, this state-of-the-art facility is the Headquarter of Project Haiti for Hikmah Relief. As a UNICEF recognized Orphanage, this is our orphan’s home for generations to come.
